Forming a massive proportion, 57.9% of the population in Pakistan is comprised of young people. These youngsters are an asset to Pakistan however, their problems are widely overlooked. An alarming increase of mental health problems among the young-population is sadly the most neglected area in health –care field.

Mental health care needs to be incorporated as a core service in primary care and supported by specialist service. According to the International Journal of Emergency Mental Health and Human Resilience mental health is the most neglected field in Pakistan where 10- 16% of the population, more then 14 million suffers from mild to moderate psychiatric illness majority of which are women. Pakistan has only one psychiatrist for every 10,000/- persons suffering from any of the mental disorders, from mental health issues. Only four major psychiatric hospitals exist for the population of 180 millions and it is one the major factors behind increase in number of patients with mental disorders.

According to media reports approximately, 15,000/- suicides have been recorded and majority of such cases are of individuals under the age of 25 and 39 % of the adolescents were found with low mood followed by 36% of them suffering with anxiety and depression.

In compliance with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mental Health Act, 2017 this house resolves that the metal Health Authority should be functionalized which according to the provision of Act should take concrete actions for the treatment, care management of properties and affairs of the mentally disordered persons and their families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
